The Benefits of Martial Arts Training
Why should you learn Martial Arts? Most people would say that Martial Arts training is for competing, for earning a black belt or for learning how to defend yourself. Any of those answers would be correct, but those are but a few of the many benefits you'll gain by training in the Martial Arts. Regardless of whether you decide to take a Mixed Martial Arts class, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class or a Muay Thai class or other Martial Arts form, by training in the Martial Arts, you'll become something far greater than yourself. You'll join a group of Martial Artists worldwide who have been practicing that art for decades, or for far longer than that. It's much like joining a fraternity or brotherhood of sorts, but one focused on perfecting that art and passing that knowledge on to others over time.

Joining a Martial Arts dojo, like Tenbears Martial Arts Academy and others, is the beginning of a journey that can take you as far as you want to go, including becoming a master of the art.

Building Strength

Another key component and benefit of Martial Arts training is "strength training." Although you're usually not lifting free weights or using weightlifting machines in a Martial Arts class, most Martial Arts schools including the Tenbears Dayton Martial Arts Academy, pride themselves on adding a strength building regimen to their Martial Arts classes. Typically, you should expect to take part in a number of strength building exercises during each class. Most likely those will include at a minimum, several sets of pushups and situps. If you're taking a Karate class, don't be surprised to be expected to do "Knuckle Pushups" as a way to prepare you for board and brick breaking later on. Situps are a necessity to build a stronger core. Strong abdominal muscles are essential to minimize injuries and maximize your success when grappling in Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Mixed Martial Arts. They also keep you from being injured when getting punched or kicked in your midsection during a Karate or Kickboxing class. Squats are another strength building exercise that you'll likely experience. The stronger your legs are in any Martial Art, the more successful you'll be when doing a kata or when sparring with an opponent. Plan on leg lifts too. When combined with situps they also add to a stronger core. Strength exercises are an integral part of any Martial Arts training program and they go a long way in preparing you for a long, safe and satisfying Martial Arts experience.

Strength exercises are an important part of any Martial Arts classroom training program.  They add an essential element to make sure that your Martial Arts expereince is long, safe and satisfying.

Flexibility

One of the most important requirements of a complete Martial Arts training program is to include "body flexibility ' as a primary goal. The benefits of extreme flexibility for a Martial Arts student are numerous. Because flexibility is an essential element of any Martial Arts program, Tenbears Martial Arts Academy makes sure to teach their students, the best ways to "warm up" prior to practice and how to make their bodies as flexible as possible. Regular progress in Martial Arts classes requires consistent practice and regular attendance. As weeks pass, students naturally progress in their training. They stay motivated as they see the results of their hard work and training. One of the most discouraging events that can occur to a student, is an injury that disrupts that continuity of progress. Like any sport or physical activity, Martial Arts in any form exposes participants to potential injury if they are not properly prepared. That's why including a rigorous warm-up and stretching (flexibility training) segment to begin each class and a cool down stretching component to the end of each class is so important. The best Martial Arts athletes understand the importance of building the intensity of their workouts gradually to limit the likelihood of muscle injuries. Martial Arts injuries often occur due to either not warming up at all or to an inadequate warm-up. At the Dayton Tenbears Martial Arts Academy we know that the more flexible our students become, the less likely they'll be on the sidelines due to injury and the more likely they'll be progressing faster in their Martial Arts training. The time taken to properly warm up and cool down during each Martial Arts class is a small investment of time, that pays huge dividends for Martial Arts athletes in the long run. Flexibility exercises are an integral part of any Tenbears Dayton Martial Arts training program and they go a long way in preparing you for a long, safe and satisfying Martial Arts experience.

Stretching exercises are essential to reducing and eliminating injuries.  Martial arts students at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy are taught how to warm up properly.  Regular training in this way helps students progress much more consistently.

Stamina and Endurance

True fitness comes from a combination of regular physical activities. We help Marital Arts students at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy work toward true fitness by including strength training, flexibility training and endurance training exercises in every class they take. Endurance is extremely important for a Martial Arts student. It comes from the many warm up exercises, from the training itself and even from the cool-down period of class. The more aerobic the exercise the better. What are some of the many benefits to increased stamina and endurance? First of all, heart health. Each Martial Arts class at Tenbears aims at achieving full body conditioning. We want to make sure your most important muscle, your heart, is properly conditioned. Through our training, we will help you build a stronger heart, and in turn build your endurance. Increased stamina and endurance will improve your overall quality of life. You'll wake up refreshed and have more energy throughout each day. In addition to heart health, for those who want to compete as a Martial Artist, stamina and endurance are an essential element to success. Typically the most successful MMA fighters, are the most fit. They are able to maintain their form and power throughout the fight. Those who have not trained well, will suffer throughout the bout and especially toward the end of each round. They will be vulnerable because they lack the endurance required to compete successfully. Our goal for competitive students is to make sure they build the stamina they'll need to match the intensity of their MMA opponents. The time taken to build stamina and endurance during each Martial Arts class is a small investment of time, that pays huge dividends for Martial Arts athletes in the long run. A focus on building stamina and endurance is an integral part of any Tenbears Dayton Martial Arts training program and it will go a long way in improving your quality of life and preparing you for a satisfying Martial Arts experience.
