Brian Updyke was born and raised in the Dayton Area. He served 14 years in the Ohio National Guard, serving in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He works fulltime with a local police department where he utilizes the skills he has learned and has been trained in at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy to help keep the community safe. Brian's interest in the Martial Arts began while serving in the Army. Training in Army Combatives (AKA Gracie Comabatives) gave him his first taste of Jiu Jitsu Self Defense. He continued his love for combat competition by volunteering with a local youth wrestling program. Brian volunteered as an assistant coach for six years, helping numerous children develop the skills needed to become disciplined team players. Those skills will help them grow up to become productive members of the community. ﷯ Along with years of experience in wrestling, Army Combatives, and Gracie Combatives, Brian continually strives to hone and improve his Martial Arts skills. He studies and recently obtained his Brown Belt in Yudansha (An American Jiu-Jitsu Fighting Art), while also training in the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As a youth Martial Arts Instructor, Brian takes his position very seriously. He cares about each and every student’s well-being. He wants his students to enjoy class, while they are learning the necessary skills to be successful Martial Artists. Brian strives to bring a fun learning environment to every youth class. His unique approach , brings a level of discipline to learning without the child even realizing it.  Instructor Brian Updyke
