 Student Testimonials Brazilian Jiu Jitsu It's Been a Crazy MMA Journey! This journey in MMA has been CRAZY! I finally know when I'm competing. February. I will have a years worth of training and I will be ready to go. As of now I'm not too concerned with whether or not I'm going to lose. I'm just focused on learning and perfecting techniques so I can perform to the best of my ability. Over the past month or so I have cleaned up my eating habits. Unless it's Sunday or a special occasion I am very careful about what I put in my body. There are still things I absolutely will not eat though. Back to MMA. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and kickboxing are still my favorite workouts. Even though I work out on my own time the techniques that I learn come to me very naturally. Also, the nuisance points that are made in kickboxing classes are just amazing the smallest things make the biggest difference. That's why I'm always making progress. Marquis Satterwhite - Tenbears MMA Student Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is Part of My Life This week was fully dedicated to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This was hands down the best week of Jiu Jitsu I've ever been apart of. Tuesday was almost packed full and it was just a plain BJJ class with a couple of throws. Thursday was a No-gi self-defense Jiu Jitsu day. This was really fun. I had never done any striking with Jiu Jitsu before this and I actually prefer it to regular Jiu Jitsu. I think it's better to do self-defense Jiu Jitsu because its a more realistic approach to how most of us would apply what we learn. My experience with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts has been amazing. I look to compete in a few years but for now I am loving the strides I make while sparring. I like sparring with Danny who is a purple belt (I'm a white Belt) because I am forced to push every single part of my game past my abilities. I love to push myself because knowing that I have given every bit of effort is how I ensure growth and maturity. I think it's official. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is part of my life now. Tenbears MMA Academy has been so instrumental in my new path. I just want to get myself in the best possible shape and I also want to be a fighter someday. This past week of BJJ class was going fine up until the very end of sparring. The first five minutes I felt fine. Then, it went south really fast. I drank a protein shake before class because I usually never eat before. That was such a terrible idea. I was on the brink of vomiting ten minutes into sparring and my recovery time was a lot longer than it usually is. What I liked most about class were the actual lessons. We learned three entries into the arm bar. These were rather easy to execute while drilling, but I look forward to being able to do them while sparring. We also learned one of the many ways to take the back. I was actually able to use this while sparring and I got a nice rear naked choke in. Marquis Satterwhite - Tenbears MMA Student

Anyone looking for a great workout that combines power with self-defense techniques should give BJJ or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a try. It allows you to control and overcome an adversary who has greater size and strength. That's one reason it is so popular. Classes focus on techniques that help students learns to control and defeat an adversary by forcing them to surrender or submit. Most of the Brazilian Jui Jitsu style we teach focuses on being able to force an adversary to the ground and grappling for dominant positions they cannot continue to fight.
